an American portrait photographer: Annie Leibovitz

Leibovitz photographed The Rolling Stones in San Francisco in 1971 and 1972, and served as the concert-tour photographer for Rolling Stones Tour of the Americas ‘75. Her favorite photo from the tour was a photo of Mick Jagger in an elevator.

On December 8, 1980, Leibovitz had a photo shoot with John Lennon for Rolling Stone, promising him that he would make the cover. She had initially tried to get a picture with just Lennon alone, which is what Rolling Stone wanted, but Lennon insisted that both he and Yoko Ono be on the cover. Leibovitz then tried to re-create something like the kissing scene from the Double Fantasy album cover, a picture that she loved. She had John remove his clothes and curl up next to Yoko. Leibovitz recalls, “What is interesting is she said she’d take her top off and I said, ‘Leave everything on’ — not really preconceiving the picture at all. Then he curled up next to her and it was very, very strong. You couldn’t help but feel that she was cold and he looked like he was clinging on to her. I think it was amazing to look at the first Polaroid and they were both very excited. John said, ‘You’ve captured our relationship exactly. Promise me it’ll be on the cover.’ I looked him in the eye and we shook on it.Leibovitz was the last person to professionally photograph Lennon—he was shot and killed five hours later.

Leibovitz claims she never liked the word “celebrity”. “I’ve always been more interested in what they do than who they are, I hope that my photographs reflect that.” She tries to receive a little piece of each subjects personality in the photos.

In response to the internet circulation of the photo and ensuing media attention, Cyrus released a statement of apology on April 27:

“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

Leibovitz also released a statement saying:

“I’m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted,” Leibovitzsaid. “The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful.”

Jean-Paul Gaultier / Regine Chopinot: Le Defile

Well-known for his outrageous style, Jean-Paul Gaultier is an expert at exaggerated fashions, such as corsets, tutus and tights. Gaultier has extended fashion’s vocabulary and emphasizes the imprisoned female form by adorning it in multiple layers of irony. His popular designs, such as the bullet bra he made for Madonna in the 1980s, have often caused a sensation.

Gaultier and French choreographer Regine Chopinot, two astonishing talents of the fashion and performance worlds, came together in their first collaborative ef for t for a series of twelve performances from 1983 to 1994, and this exhibition presents the results of that collaboration. The eighty costumes for this exhibition are on loan from the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the National Theatre Costume Centre in Moulins. The exhibition also includes drawings, photographs and videos.

Day & Night

Walt Disney Pictures has given us an exclusive clip from Pixar’s next short film, Day & Night, directed by Teddy Newton.

The short, which will be attached to Toy Story 3, features two characters, one filled with day, the other filled with night. While the “inside” of the characters is computer animated, the Day & Night characters themselves are 2D, hand drawn. In Digital Disney 3D, the characters act as a window into a 3D world… its very cool.

You can see what I mean in the exclusive clip after the jump. Don’t worry about spoilers, as the clip is short enough not to give anything away — just a good sample of what to expect

ZWEIOHRKÜKEN!!

Finally, The movie ZWEIOHRKÜKEN (Rabbit without ears2) is in Taiwan theaters now!

Ihave learned German since high school but I have to admit, up till now I have never been a big fan of German movies in general. As I remembered, only I have seen are Jenseits der Stille (Beyond Silence,Directed by Caroline Link ) ,Run Lola Run(written and directed by Tom Tykwer), Walk on water (Basically its supposed a Israel film directed by Eytan Fox , one of chief actor is a German boy Knut Berger ) But I changed my mind after watching Keinohrhasen. I simply loved it

The chemistry between Til and Nora is - surprisingly - just great, the story is classic, simple, even a little bit comical but so beautiful and I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard in any movie.
